Lai Sead Ping: The Guy Who Makes Things Happen in Asia

Publisert 06.25.2025

Seagarden’s General Manager in Asia, Lai Sead Ping, is an engineer at heart who enjoys building something from nothing – virtues that benefit an increasing number of Asian companies seeking access to responsibly sourced collagen and marine products from Norway.

– My engineering background has given me a mindset of making things happen, he says.

He’s been with Seagarden for ten years and attributes his tenure to the interesting product, the fast-paced market, and the company’s culture – especially how he’s never truly alone, despite being thousands of miles away from the rest of his team.

– My colleagues are never far away. If I need something, they respond immediately. That way, things move very fast at Seagarden, he says.

Moving fast and adapting to changing circumstances comes in handy when Sead Ping helps his clients navigate what can sometimes be challenging logistical and regulatory hurdles.

– Different countries have different ways of doing things – both in terms of regulations and culture. That’s why we go above and beyond to help our clients throughout the entire journey, he says.

Sead Ping highlights his colleagues’ expertise in navigating this complex landscape:

– Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do my job, he says.

By handing off the administrative tasks to his colleagues, Sead Ping also has the capacity to provide his clients with detailed information across Seagarden’s product lineup: Marine Collagen, Marine Ingredients, and Petfood.

And he does this through storytelling.

Telling the Story

It’s no secret that the Asian market has a taste for Norwegian products. Combined with Sead Ping’s knack for storytelling, more and more companies in the region are ending up with responsibly sourced products on their shelves.

– I always sell the story of our products instead of just focusing on the ingredients and nutrition. Norway is not only a country; it’s a stamp of quality, he says, pointing to Seagarden’s certifications, transparency, and sustainable business model.

– An important alternative for a region that still has work to do when it comes to sustainability, he adds.

Innovation Norway, in collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Beijing, the Consulate General in Shanghai, and Team Norway partners, is pleased to invite Norwegian companies to participate in the Norwegian Health & Nutrition Pavilion at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE).
